„Ta rasa tak ma” – charakterystyka rasowa rozrodu kotów i predyspozycje rasowe do wybranych zaburzeń rozrodu

Podsumowanie

Choć u kotów opisano znacznie mniej różnic rasowych w rozrodzie niż u psów, ich znajomość jest cenna dla lekarzy weterynarii sprawujących opiekę nad hodowlami kotów rasowych. Pozwala to na lepszą diagnostykę oraz bardziej indywidualne podejście do pacjenta. Wykrywanie problemów swoistych dla konkretnych ras wraz z informowaniem o nich hodowców może zapobiec ich pogłębianiu i doprowadzeniu do sytuacji, w jakiej znajdują się obecnie niektóre rasy psów (na przykład buldogi angielskie wymagające w 90% cesarskiego cięcia).

“That’s normal for this breed” – breed characteristics of reproduction in cats and predispositions to selected reproductive pathologies

Although much fewer breed differences in reproduction have been described in cats than in dogs, knowledge about them is valuable for veterinarians taking care of catteries. This allows for better diagnosis and a more individualized approach to the patient. For example, Siamese cats reach puberty much earlier and have larger litters than Persian cats. These two breeds face different reproductive problems (e.g. nymphomania and mammary gland tumors in Siamese cats vs. ovarian cysts and high kitten mortality in Persian). Identification of breed-specific problems combined with raising awareness among breeders can prevent the development of serious disturbances that can be observed in some dog breeds (e.g. in English bulldogs, which require cesarean section in 90% of pregnancies).
