SUMMARY

Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture in Cats

Cruciate ligament ruptures in cats are usually caused by trauma. In large-breed and overweight cats, degenerative changes can also cause ligament rupture. A positive drawer test is sufficient for diagnosis. In small cats, fibrosis of the joint capsule provides sufficient joint stability, while cats weighing over 6 kg are candidates for surgical treatment, usually ligament replacement. The prognosis is usually very good.
